Ferrum College Receives Japanese Maples

The saplings are a gift from Luther Derby, Jr. whose father was the College president from 1943 - 1948.
Ferrum, Va. (October 23, 2012) – Ferrum College this morning received a gift of 17 Japanese maple trees from Luther Derby Jr., whose father, Luther J. Derby Sr. was College president from 1943 – 1948.
Two of the trees will be planted near the College bookstore. Five more will be planted next to Franklin Hall and 10 next to the soon-to-be completed Ferrum College YMCA.
The gift includes several varieties of Japanese Maples, which will add to the natural beauty of the campus.
