Ferrum College Plans Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Inauguration Day Events

On Mon., Jan. 21, the campus community will celebrate the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with two events, plus host Inauguration Day coverage.

Ferrum, Va. (Jan. 17, 2013) - On Monday, January 21, the Ferrum College campus community will honor and celebrate the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a 9 a.m. morning program in the Panther’s Den in Franklin Hall followed by a 7 p.m. evening program in Vaughn Chapel. In addition, President Barack Obama’s Inauguration Address will be shown with coverage beginning at 11 a.m. in the Panther’s Den.

The African American Student Association will present the two programs commemorating Dr. King. The morning program will feature a short presentation on King's inspiration and his image during the Civil Rights Movement, as well as other presentations by students and a MLK Game Quest with questions, answers, and prizes.

The evening celebratory program will feature a keynote speaker, poems, and songs from students, faculty and staff, followed by King's last speech "I've Been to the Mountaintop."

The Student Government Association will host coverage of President Barack Obama's second term Inauguration Address.
